More About Me
I’m a thoughtful and reflective leader who gets what motivates people. My extensive experience as an executive working in the public sector means I understand the complex issues in public service, including how to listen, how to bring a strategic plan to life and how to improve an organization. I’ve worked alongside a wide variety of communities including Indigenous leaders, racialized groups, and people who identify as LGBTQIA+. My volunteer work on governance boards, both national and local, give insights into what matters.
Most recently, I served as Interim and Associate Director of Education. These roles expanded my ability and commitment to listening to understand and then implementing a vision for results.
I moved to Hamilton 35 years ago and it’s become my beloved hometown. The energy and quirkiness of the city inspires me. My partner and I enjoy the gift of our wonderful network of trails. If you want a walking meeting, I am in! (As long as there’s coffee.)
Identity matters, and so I share that I’m a cisgender, queer, white woman with a settler background. Some of these identities afford me great privilege, and some have shown me what barriers feel and look like and what inclusion and affirmation really mean. My personal and professional experiences have taught me how important it is to hold space for all voices, to challenge and unlearn my colonial, white supremacist worldview, and to be guided by those with lived experience. I’m persistent and action oriented in my work to become an anti-racist equitable leader.
Reading is my superpower. The interior and exterior world opens up while reading. It offers insights, information, understanding and those wonderful a ha! moments where things just click. I always want to hear about what people are reading, so if you have a book to recommend, please share!
I love to dig into problems and solve them using careful listening and a collaborative plan. If you’re looking to improve your leadership, your non-profit or your school board, have a conversation with me. I believe in the power of people to change the world – let’s start with our little corner.
