(Reading Time: 2 minutes)
It’s here! My next chapter, my next step, my next adventure. With 35 years in the public sector under my belt, I’m ready for something new.
I took a look back at my very first post, and I remember the sense of adventure the first time I pressed publish. It felt wonderful but also scary. Who would read it? What might they think? Would anyone care?
I found out that none of that really mattered. The writing helped me to make sense of the world and the work I was doing. Of course it’s great when someone takes the time to read and even comment, and I always hope it provides some way for them to understand their world and themselves better.
That work saw me as an educator in Hamilton, most recently the Associate Director for Learning Services with HWDSB (and sometime interim Director), a role where I’ve coached, solved complex problems, worked with elected officials and communities, developed senior leaders and led school improvement. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with superintendents, associate directors and teach aspiring superintendents across the province. My experience in non-profit board governance over many years in Hamilton and with a Canadian organization has helped me understand communities even more than working in education.
My commitment to treaty work alongside the Indigenous Education department and to anti-racism and anti-oppression has been very meaningful over the last few years. You can read more about that in the How I Work section of my homepage.
And now, here I am with this new venture, Sue Dunlop Consulting, where I’ll be offering in person or virtual services to support leadership coaching and development, strategic execution of multi-year plans, and project management. I’ll work with people to understand their needs, help them be better and maybe, just maybe, change our corner of the world.
